 AMY LEIGH-MATTHEWS

 ARTISTIC DIRECTOR.

PRODUCER. WRITER. ACTOR. DIRECTOR

Mary Ann WMW_edited.jpg

Amy's creative talent was first recognized by her secondary school teacher, who gave this shy girl an opportunity by casting her as the lead in the school play. This experience ignited her passion for acting, leading her to hone her skills at East 15 Acting School, the Actor’s Temple, and the Salon Collective. She has since performed in various plays and short films, spanning genres from kitchen sink dramas to historical pieces and comedies.

Years later, frustrated by the lack of substantial roles for women of her age and background, she discovered a new passion for writing for stage and screen. Her first short play, Mrs. Poison Cotton, was selected for performances at The Pleasance Theatre by Glass Splinters and at Bedford’s fringe venue, The Gordon Arms, by MO&NA Theatre Company. This play later became part of Lipstick Rebel’s launch production, Women Making Waves, an anthology of short plays about women "Whom we ought to know about!" Her second play, The Servant Problem, co-written with Vikki Thompson, also premiered at this launch show. Encouraged by the positive audience feedback, they developed their first full-length play, Hourglass: A Suffragette’s Story, which Amy co-produced and directed for its debut at the newly opened The Soho Poly. She is currently working on several projects, including her next full-length play, Demolition, which shines the light on coercive control and domestic abuse.

 VIKKI THOMPSON

PRODUCER. WRITER. ACTOR. DIRECTOR

As a child, Vikki secretly dreamed of becoming an actress, but her lack of confidence and opportunities led her to pursue art and art history, eventually working in the heritage sector. Her passion for acting was reignited 15 years ago when she attended an workshop, and she hasn't looked back since. Vikki trained at City Lit and the Salon Collective and became a member of Third Person Theatre Company, known for creating dramatic improvised plays. She has taken on a range of comedic and dramatic roles, most recently in the award-winning web series Retail is Hell and the Sci-Fi feature film Voidance.

Vikki is passionate about creating engaging roles for women over 40 and delving into stories that beautifully intertwine comedy and drama. Her acclaimed 2021 short film, A Special Place, which she wrote, directed, and starred in, received the Indiefest Award of Merit. She has also penned two plays for Women Making Waves, including Prosperina Redux, centered on the Pre-Raphaelite muse Jane Morris, and directed "In Hitler's Bathtub," inspired by photographer Lee Miller's life. Currently, Vikki is immersed in writing several short plays and two full-length works, including "With My Patrick Cox’s On," which explores connection and meaning within the vibrant 1990s rave culture at a Dignitas clinic.

"An interesting study on the position of women beneath the veneer of respectability of Edwardian society. A reminder of some of the horrendous treatment different social classes were subjected to."
